Translation as a System, Not a Black Box

When translation quality degrades at scale, the cause is rarely linguistic. More often, it is structural — rooted in file formats, segmentation, tagging, or workflows that make careful translation unnecessarily difficult.

My approach does not attempt to quantify translation quality itself. Instead, it focuses on identifying and addressing sources of structural friction that interfere with a translator’s ability to work reliably and comfortably under real production conditions.

This means paying close attention to how translation tools and files behave in practice: where segments become unwieldy, where structure breaks down, or where tooling imposes cognitive or technical overhead that has nothing to do with translation decisions.

Interventions at the file or segment level — adjusting structure, segmentation, or technical constraints — often have a greater impact on sustained quality than post-hoc review or abstract process optimization. By stabilizing the working environment, high-quality translation becomes easier to produce and easier to maintain over time.

Any tooling or process adjustments that result from this philosophy are secondary by design. Their purpose is not to optimize translators or to make translation faster, but to remove obstacles so that attention can remain where it belongs: on the videogame itself, its intent, and the experience it offers to players.

2.2 Working at the File and Segment Level

Many of the factors that quietly undermine translation quality never surface at the UI level. They reside instead in how content is segmented, structured, and constrained before a translator ever touches a sentence.

My focus at the file and segment level is therefore not on technical intervention for its own sake, but on identifying structural conditions that make careful translation harder than it needs to be. Overly long segments, unstable segmentation boundaries, or fragile tagging schemes can introduce cognitive and technical friction that no amount of linguistic skill can fully compensate for.

By intervening at this layer — adjusting structure, segmentation, or constraints where necessary — I aim to stabilize the working environment itself. When the structure is sound, translation tools behave more predictably, translators can work with less resistance, and quality becomes easier to sustain over time.
